What Do You Think? Wednesdays. That’s what I think I’ll call this day that I have used to pose ideas for you to ponder. Today, the first Wednesday in Women’s History Month, deals with mamas. I guess it’s that kind of week. Unlike my Monday post, that highlighted a phenomenal mother, the following anti-abortion ad and fed-up mama video challenge the mothering instincts of women, the first one directly aimed at African American women.

What do you think of each, especially in light of Scripture? Here are a few verses to consider:
“Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate” (Psalm 127:3-5).
“Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:1-2).
“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away” (2 Timothy 3:1-5).
“Discipline your son, for there is hope; do not set your heart on putting him to death” (Proverbs 19:18).
“Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him” (Proverbs 13:24).
“A foolish son is a grief to his father and bitterness to her who bore him” (Proverbs 17:25).
“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4).
I look forward to hearing your thoughts. You can read some of mine in the comments section here.

The topic of abortion has been something that I have faced over and over again, over the past 5 years. As a high school and college student I met women on several occasions who were faced with “The Decision.” Honestly I strayed away from having to answer the question about “The Decision.” I just didn’t know what to do with it. I am still struggling with it.
In regards to the poster. If activist are allowed to promote women having the option to get an abortion, why not provide an alternative option to abortion, let a woman choose in my eyes the best decision to have her child despite the situation. And what ever happened to freedom of speech?
On another note, I appreciate the shaming mom. He will learn. I think as long as she is shaming for the purpose of teaching it’s a good idea. Some time you need a little tough love.

Thanks for weighing in Najeema. God created humans with the ability to choose but He always wants us to choose what He wants. To me that means carrying a child to term if the pregnancy is medically viable. All don’t agree with that. I have mixed feelings about the shaming mama, though. I must say I got a kick out of her extreme approach. Her son truly looked ashamed.
Hello Sister, I respect your thoughts and authenticity. Let me say that I am pro-life and believe that everyone has to make a decision for self (at that moment); however, that does not give anyone the authority to shame or disrespect any woman — especially a Queen.
Yes, Sis. We must disagree with respect. Shaming folks & disrespecting them only causes animosity and deflects from the issues at hand. Thanks so much for your thoughts.
