“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”—Lamentations 3:22-23
Whenever I think about God’s mercies my mind goes to the biggies: how he kept me from getting AIDS during my course of sexual sin; how he saved my husband from death—four times—from a heart rhythm a specialist says “is not conducive to life”; how my unborn baby could have died in my womb as his head was pressed against his prolapsed umbilical cord if it weren’t for God’s hand through my awesome doctor. Yes, God’s mercy has been great in keeping me and my family from death. I see that clearly in these very specific biggies. But what about today? What about your today? How have God’s mercies been new to you today? How have you seen them in your life beyond the biggies?
As I looked back over my July blogging break I was able to see God’s mercy, but I want to recognize them daily. Lamentations tells us they’re there. I know they are, but I don’t acknowledge them like I should. Starting today, I am going to actively look for His mercies daily, and I’m going to praise Him the moment I see a mercy. It’s going to be like playing “I Spy” with the kids. I think I’ll get them involved and we’ll spy a mercy. When I spy a mercy, I will praise Him for his steadfast love that never ceases and for his great faithfulness. I hope you join me and spy some mercies today.
